As Michael admits, the whole affirmative argument is based on finding and committing to a good partner.
I’m not going to cavil on what he means by “good”, but I assume he means something like compatible, ie: similar social status, similar core values, similar traits.
In my case I’ve been divorced for almost 50 years, so I think of myself (and describe myself) as permanently single, but his arguments seem very sound. In my case I chose badly, and, I suppose, so did she.
