As soon as you heard that there was an attempt on Donald Trump’s life, you could immediately predict some of the reactions:
Conspiracy theories. There’s always someone ready to say it was a “false flag”, and that the target of the attempt was really its instigator. So clever! Or maybe it was planned by the government. There’s always going to be some “suspicious” aspects of the case that people will insist couldn’t possibly be explained by a lone gunman.
Partisan recriminations. Surely this is the fault of the Democrats for all their wild, divisive rhetoric about Trump. Or is it the fault of the Republicans, and perhaps Trump himself, for their divisive rhetoric?
How could those stupid security people let this happen?!
You might be wondering: which of these reactions are warranted, and which are silly? Or maybe you already know, but you’d like to hear it anyway.
